The AFL Players’ Association was delighted with the success of Friday night’s NAB Cup Bushfire Appeal which saw $1.2m raised for those affected by the Victorian bushfires.

Funds raised included all gate receipts and match costs, a $300,000 donation from the AFL on behalf of the 16 clubs and, as well as $70,000 collected by players, coaches and NAB volunteers outside the ground.

The final tally also included a $150,000 donation from the AFL Players’ Association Charity Fund.

AFL Players’ Association Vice-President Brett Burton, who made the donation announcement on behalf of all AFL players at the Bushfire Appeal game was pleased to see the football family come together to support those affected by the tragedy.

“We’ve all been incredibly affected by the stories and images from the terrible bushfires that have ripped the heart out of rural Victoria."

“Tonight’s game is a tribute to all people touched by this tragedy, as well as the emergency services personnel, who are the real heroes in our community,” Burton said.
