The career life of an AFL Player can generally be broken into three distinct phases:

Phase 1 - 'Awareness'

1 to 2 years

Phase 2 - 'Development'

3 to 5 years

Phase 3 - 'Action'

6 plus years

The AFLPA's Player Development program offers a tailored off-field development program, specifically geared towards the career phase the player has reached.

Whilst each phase targets and provides particular skills and knowledge, the AFLPA Player Development Program focuses on providing three key attributes identified as being crucial to the success or otherwise of an AFL player.

  1. Resilience
  2. Decision Making
  3. Communication Skills
