Ladder welcomes three new staff
Ladder, the co-creation of the AFL Players’ Association and the AFL Foundation to address the issue of youth homelessness, is pleased to announce the appointment of three key staff to the Ladder Hoddle Street team.
Cathryn Fitzpatrick, Brydie Lawford and Gina Ezard join the team at important time in Ladder’s short yet remarkable history.
Cathryn Fitzpatrick joins Ladder after gaining extensive experience in working with young people through her involvement with Melbourne Citymission, but also through her role as both a player and coach in Women’s Cricket. Cathryn represented Australia in 109 ODI’s and 13 Test during a 15 year playing career. She currently coaches Victoria Spirit in the Women’s National League.
Cathryn’s work with Melbourne Citymission has provided her with a sound knowledge of issues affecting young people who are homeless or at the risk of homelessness and the difficulties they face in maintaining safe, supportive and affordable housing.
“I have a strong commitment to the support and empowerment of young people, and their right to access a wide variety of support services as they move towards independence.”
After completing a Bachelor of Social Science (Youth Work), Brydie Lawford worked as a residential youth support worker developing her skills in engaging and supporting young people. Most recently, Brydie worked at St Mary’s House of Welcome, working on creating and delivering programs such as exercise groups and op-shopping excursions as well as providing basic welfare support to clients. The programs were aimed at connecting clients back into the community whilst learning skills such as budgeting.
Brydie is keen to get started on her new role, “I’m excited about the opportunity to provide 12 young people who are experiencing homeless or are at risk of homelessness, safe and sustainable accommodation.”
A qualified youth worker, Gina Ezard has worked with young people throughout her career. With qualifications in Management, Gina managed the opening and operations of a community training café which provided training to marginalized people area, assisting with pathways to further education and employment.
Gina has a strong belief in creating opportunities for young people, supporting those who need direction and a positive outlook for the future and is looking forward to making a difference in her role as Ladder Hoddle Street’s Youth Support Worker.
