How to become an AFLPA Accredited Agent

As the body representing the collective professional interests of AFL Players, the AFL Players' Association has an obligation to ensure that competent and ethical individuals represent it's members.

To help ensure this, the AFL Players' Association manages a compulsory accreditation process for AFL player agents.

How the process works

Applications to become an Accredited AFL Player Agent are only accepted during the AFLPA Agent Accreditation Period - 2011 Dates TBA.

Individuals must complete the following steps in order to become an accredited AFL Player Agent.

Step 1 - Complete the Application for Accreditation as an AFL Player Agent form.

Applicants must complete and return to the AFLPA the Application for Accreditation as an AFL Player Agent form. In support of this application the applicant must supply further documentation as outlined in the following steps. See below for the application form.

Step 2 - Obtain and supply a copy of Professional Indemnity Insurance

Applicants must hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance to support their application. A copy of this information must be supplied to the AFLPA with your application.  Applications without this documentation will not be accepted.

Minimum cover - $2 million

Step 3 - Obtain a National Police Record Check

Applicants must supply a National Police Certificate. To undertake a National Police Record Check please click here or download the online application form listed at the bottom of the page.  For interstate applicants please note that you are able to undertake this check via the Victorian Police website.

You must supply a copy of your Criminal History check with your application.   Applications without this documentation will not be accepted.

Upon successfully providing these documents and gaining approval from the AFLPA to sit the exam, each applicant will receive a study pack which will contain relevant reading materials and practice exams along with their exam details.

Step 4 - Sit an AFLPA Accredited Agent Exam

Applicants must also sit a supervised exam, dealing with the applicants knowledge of the range of collective instruments which apply to AFL players, which includes, but is not limited to:

An exam timetable will be published at the beginning of the accreditation period (1st May 2010) and all applicants must be available to sit the exam at the prescribed date and time.  Victorian based applicants will sit the exam at the AFLPA. Applicants from non-Victorian states will have the facility to complete their exam in their home state.

If the applicant has been unsuccessful at receiving a 75% pass mark or more, they will have to reapply for accreditation in future accreditation windows (i.e. May 2012)

What next?

Once the applicant has supplied a complete accreditation application and successfully passed the accreditation exam they will be invoiced for both their application fees and annual subscription.  Once paid the applicant will be issued with probationary accreditation.  Agent accreditation fees are as follows:

Accreditation Fee = $550 (including GST)
Application Fee = $440 (including GST)
Annual subscription = $990 (including GST)
TOTAL = $1980

Full Accreditation

To gain full AFLPA Agent Accreditation, applicants must attend the AFLPA Agent Accreditation Induction Day or alternatively, have undertaken an approved Athlete Management Course) to be conducted prior to the annual AFLPA Accredited Agents Conference. Upon attending the Induction session and Conference and fulfilling all other requirements, the Accredited Agent is supplied with an AFLPA Accredited Agent pack and Certificate.
