2010 Mike Fitzpatrick Scholarships announced

The AFL Players’ Association is pleased to announce the names of the eleven young footballers to receive a Mike Fitzpatrick Scholarship for 2010.

Young Victorian footballer Majak Daw (pictured) accepted his scholarship on behalf of all 11 scholarship recipients at Monday nights AFL Players’ Association Most Valuable Player Awards.
 
Since 2001, the AFL Players’ Association has awarded scholarships to assist young footballer’s aged between 15 & 17 in their education & training whilst they aspire to an AFL career.  
 
According to AFL Players’ Association General Manager of Player Development Steve Alessio, “this scholarship continues to provide much need assistance to quality young talented men who may not otherwise get the opportunity to achieve their dream of playing in the AFL without this financial assistance.”

 

The eleven young footballers to receive a Mike Fitzpatrick Scholarship are:

ABOUT THE MIKE FITZPATRICK SCHOLARSHIPS
 
Named after Carlton premiership Captain, businessman and AFL Commission Chairman Mike Fitzpatrick, the scholarships recognise Mike's outstanding efforts in combining football & academic excellence.
 
Since 2001, over $450,000 has been distributed to 99 young players to support their dual academic and football aspirations.  Around 50% of scholarship recipients have gone on to be drafted by an AFL club.
 
The scholarship program has been developed as part of the AFLPA’s ‘Player Development’ services and reinforces the association's commitment to the education and welfare of future AFL players.
